MINNESOTA HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (MHIMA) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

MHIMA Scholarships
The Minnesota Health Information Management Association offers annual scholarships to Minnesota residents enrolled in an in-state or out-of-state program or out-of-state student attending a Minnesota school. These scholarships are awarded in May of each year and the application deadline is early March. Applicants must have completed 50% of one of the following:

  • Accredited Health Information Technology or Health Information Management program.
  • Graduate program related to HIM in a College or University accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
  • Coding Certificate program.
  • AHIMA Coding Basics Interactive Campus program.

Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0).
Applicant must be a member of AHIMA.

Application Process
Applicants are required to submit the following:

  • Application for MHIMA Scholarship form
  • One letter of recommendation from faculty advisor, faculty member or mentor.
  • Verification from Program Director that student is in last year and is expected to graduate.
  • Completion of an essay - length of 500 words or less.
  • An official school transcript of grades indicating cumulative GPA.

The scholarship deadline is announced each year in the MHIMA Uplink electronic communication and letters to the Program Directors.

The number of scholarships issued each year and the award amounts will be determined based upon funding available. The MHIMA Scholarship Committee selects the scholarship recipients.
